Students at Evans Elementary honored Disabilities week by learning all about various disabilities. Fourth grade read about many celebrities that have disabilities and that there are many different types of disabilities. They learned about an astronomer Wanda Diaz-Merced that is blind and rose above her struggles to invented sonification to listen to the stars and did an experiment to learn about sonification.
Kindergarten talked about Ray Charles. They learned about how we rely on other senses or kindness/help from others. They played a team game of picking up pom poms, but had to rely on their friends for help. We all have different abilities and may have to do things differently than others, but the important part is having fun and being kind to each other.
